Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and no real change in pressure. Lac de la Montagne should fish best around the margins and the shelf beyond them today. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

Quebec holds Lac de la Montagne, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Height above sea level is 284 metres. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Supplies mean a trip to Amos, 26 km off. Malartic is 40 km away, with Rouyn-Noranda at 51 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac de la Montagne the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac de la Montagne.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lac Molin at 3.8 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac de la Montagne are worth checking on the day.
