A wet system passing over today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac de la Jonchaie should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Lac de la Jonchaie is an Outaouais water, in Quebec. Around the bank it is lake country bush. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. It is a small entry by Outaouais standards. Some 49 km away sits Saint-Boniface, the nearest settlement. After that come Maniwaki at 61 km and Ferme-Neuve at 70 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt among the fish reported. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Work Lac de la Jonchaie in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac de la Jonchaie rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Lac Nemeens at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative.
