Heavy overcast holding through the day, with flat calm through the day with a settled glass. Lac de la Grimpee should fish best around the margins and the shelf beyond them today. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, this is Lac de la Grimpee. The bank is 364 metres above sea level. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Shoreline comes to about 2.8 km, small enough to learn in a day. Pont Rouge is the closest town at 52 km. Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc is 53 km away, with Sainte-Monique at 56 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac de la Grimpee the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac de la Grimpee fishes to that pattern most years.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac de la Tour Tigresse at 1.8 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac de la Grimpee as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
