A day shaped by the wind, with a useful NNE wind pushing food about and pressure going nowhere. On Lac de la Coche, work inflow corners and shaded margins first. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

You will find Lac de la Coche in Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 1.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Sainte-Anne-des-Monts is the closest town at 20 km. Beyond it, Cap-Chat at 34 km and Matane at 100 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine cover American eel, striped bass and alewife. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac de la Coche gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 15°C, while January sits near -15°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Break-up comes around mid May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages suggest open water from about mid May through to roughly mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Lac de la Coche that shapes the whole year.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Boucaneux, 1 km out. Check the position at Lac de la Coche before loading the car.
