Lac de la Coccinelle, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  Lac de la Coccinelle falls in Mauricie, part of Quebec. It sits at 500 metres above sea level. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. Start from La Tuque, 59 km down the road. Trois-Rivières sits 99 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No border sits close enough to matter.

• Where to Fish on Lac de la Coccinelle

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The near bank of Lac de la Coccinelle is often the one people ignore.

• Seasonal Patterns

  The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac de la Coccinelle fishes to that pattern most years.

• Tackle & Baits

  We hold no note on access for this one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac du Martinet, 0.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac de la Coccinelle as something to verify.
