Soft grey light all day today, with next to no ripple and the barometer holding steady. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Davus. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Davus is a Mauricie water, Quebec side. The surroundings are taiga. The water covers some 29 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 4.0 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The nearest town is Manawan, 106 km away. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 250 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Davus the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Expect Lac Davus to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lac Forad at 1.7 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position on Lac Davus before loading the car.
