Glare on the water under a clear sky, with calm air over the water with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Lac Cote is points where shallow meets deep. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Out in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, sits Lac Cote. Everything around it is mixed forest. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 2.4 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Supplies mean a trip to Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 36 km off. After that come Témiscaming at 41 km and Ville-Marie at 52 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Cote gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 18°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Lac Cote more years than not.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Lac Crouton is 0.8 km off. Check the position at Lac Cote before loading the car.
