Solid cloud cover today, with a faint WSW drift and steady pressure. Start the search at Lac Cote along reed fringes and open pockets. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

In Quebec, Lac Cote falls inside Nord-du-Québec. The surface lies 218 metres up. The water covers some 23 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Shoreline comes to about 2.3 km, small enough to learn in a day. Our Nord-du-Québec list holds plenty of bigger water. For supplies, Waskaganish is 86 km out. Further out sit Matagami (126 km) and Waswanipi (182 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Cote the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -18°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Cote.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Lac Painchaud is 1.5 km off. For Lac Cote, the notice at the access point is the final word.
