Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Cossette should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Cossette sits in Mauricie, out in Quebec. It lies 468 metres above sea level. The water covers some 26 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Bank access stretches around 3.3 km in total. The town to know is La Tuque, 59 km out. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 110 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Cossette the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Cossette the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac du Heron at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Lac Cossette should be assumed from this page alone.
