A grey, even sky over the water, with an easy breeze from the W and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Combalet should come off the seam between weed and open water. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Combalet sits. Land around it is lake country bush. Around 53 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The whole outline is near 4.2 km, and most of it is walkable. It is among the larger waters listed here for Mauricie. La Tuque sits 42 km from the bank. Weymontachie is 70 km and Manawan 81 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Combalet the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac Combalet the season follows that pattern closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac de la Proie sits 1.3 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Combalet in what we hold.
