A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac Columbus are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Quebec holds Lac Columbus, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The bank is 313 metres above sea level. Roughly 19 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 2.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The closest town, Malartic, is 32 km away. Then Rouyn-Noranda, 36 km, and Amos, 52 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Columbus that means starting tight and working out.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac Columbus runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Lac Bigat is 2.4 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac Columbus in what we hold.
