Steady rain over the water today, with almost no wind to speak of and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Lac Claude along windblown banks where food collects. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Claude, in Quebec. The bank gives way to mixed forest. The water covers some 15 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 1.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Manawan lies 54 km from the water. Weymontachie is 55 km away, with La Tuque at 71 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of Lac Claude is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Lac Claude the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lac Veillette at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Lac Claude if anything is unclear.
