A grey, even sky over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSE with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Clair around the shallows early and the drop later. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Night
Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Clair. The surface lies 246 metres up. At 5 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Start from Sainte-Thècle, 11 km down the road. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 62 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line. It is easier to fish well than to fish quickly.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac Clair responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. At Lac Clair the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Premier lac du Centre, 0.8 km away. Confirm access to Lac Clair locally before you travel.
