Dull, settled light over the water, with air barely moving and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Chien should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
You will find Lac Chien in Côte-Nord, Quebec. Taiga runs right down to the water. Roughly 80 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The perimeter runs near 8.3 km, so plan the walk before you start. Nearest place of any size is Chute-aux-Outardes, 79 km away. Saguenay is the closest city, 188 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Côte-Nord include logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Lac Chien where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid May. Ice clears near mid May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Chien.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac Troika, 2.7 km away. Confirm before you fish Lac Chien.
