Flat light and a covered sky today, with a decent WNW wind working the banks and steady pressure. Lac Chenille should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. A raw day: short sessions and precise casts pay.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, is where Lac Chenille sits. Country round the bank runs to taiga. It runs to roughly 28 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 3.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. The closest town, Mistissini, is 161 km away. Pont Rouge follows at 180 km, then Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc at 182 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Chenille light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 14°C in July and bottoms out near -21°C in January. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid May and starts locking again about early November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan around that when you fish Lac Chenille.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac de l'Equerre is 4.5 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Chenille for certain.
