A grey, even sky over the water, with a working SSW breeze with the glass holding level. Start the search at Lac Chavannes along shallow cover and weed edges. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Within Lanaudière, Quebec, you have Lac Chavannes. The bank gives way to northern bush. Surface area runs to roughly 2.20 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. Few waters listed in Lanaudière are bigger. Manawan sits 22 km from here and is the nearest stop. For a city, Trois-Rivières is 149 km off. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The near bank of Lac Chavannes is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Lac Chavannes the same rules apply, with local timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Castelveyre is 1.7 km off. For Lac Chavannes in particular, ask before you travel.
