Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with just enough WSW wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Chaud should be near the shallows early and the drop later. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Quebec, Lac Chaud belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. This is boreal forest ground. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The full circuit measures close to 2.2 km on foot. Roberval sits 25 km from the bank. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 97 km away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Chaud gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 17°C in July. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Lac Chaud runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Arzens at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Chaud in what we hold.
