Soft grey light all day today, with a soft ENE wind with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Chateauguay should come off shallow cover and weed edges. The day holds up well from afternoon into evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac Chateauguay. It stands 335 metres above sea level. It covers about 60.46 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. The form is ragged, which puts a lot of structure within casting range. Size puts it in the front rank of our Nord-du-Québec list. Kuujjuaq at 207 km is the nearest place to stop. Labrador City is 440 km away, with Wabush at 446 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Lac Chateauguay the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
On the long-term average, July reads 12°C and January reads -25°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early June. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early June until roughly late October. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That is the shape of the year on Lac Chateauguay.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Beausset, 10 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Chateauguay, the notice at the access point is the final word.
