Steady rain over the water today, with a light chop building from the WSW and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Charles should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Lac Charles in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. The setting is spruce and muskeg on every side. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 3.4 km keeps the choices simple. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Start from Saint-Honoré, 63 km down the road. Saguenay sits 75 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lac Charles decides where the fish sit.
Expect July near 15°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid May until roughly early November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Charles fishes to that pattern most years.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Petit lac Charles, 0.9 km away. What applies at Lac Charles may have changed since it was mapped.
