Heavy overcast holding through the day, with calm air over the water and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Champagne should be near the margins and the shelf beyond them. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Champagne is a Lanaudière water, Quebec side. The surroundings are taiga. The water covers some 25 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Bank access stretches around 2.4 km in total. For supplies, Manawan is 30 km out. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 144 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Lanaudière: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Champagne responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Expect Lac Champagne to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Kanawiio, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Champagne before loading the car.
