Flat light and a covered sky today, with a persistent wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Champagne should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lanaudière in Quebec is where Lac Champagne sits. Around the bank it is lake country bush. Surface area is around 12 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The nearest place of any size is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 14 km away. After that come Mandeville at 42 km and Saint-Jean-de-Matha at 45 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Lanaudière records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Champagne responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 17°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Champagne.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Pageau, 2.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Champagne are worth checking on the day.
