Overcast skies today, with a light SW breeze and pressure sitting still. The fish at Lac Cache are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Cache. The country here is spruce and muskeg. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. The nearest town is Saint-Honoré, 35 km away. Saguenay sits 47 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. There is no boundary nearby to worry about. You can learn the basics of it in one visit.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac Cache light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 16°C in July. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac Cache runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac Leopold, 0.4 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Cache in what we hold.
