Overcast skies today, with an easy breeze from the SW with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Brule are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Brule in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. The land about it is boreal forest. It runs to roughly 36 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 4.8 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Few waters listed in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are bigger. Head to Saint-Honoré, 29 km away, for anything you forgot. Saguenay sits 42 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Brule that means starting tight and working out.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -18°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Time your trip to Lac Brule by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Petit lac Brule, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Brule if anything is unclear.
