Set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Lac Brown is a Quebec water. The water sits 315 metres up. About 1.94 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. With 16 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Few waters listed in Abitibi-Témiscamingue are bigger. Nearest town is Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 40 km off. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 183 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Brown the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -15°C at the bottom of winter. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Lac Brown the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Donney sits 1.3 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm access to Lac Brown locally before you travel.
