An even grey lid over the water, with a kind SE breeze on the water and no real change in pressure. Give the shaded margin through bright spells the first hour at Lac Bonpas. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Bonpas. Tidal water begins 31 km from here. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. The closest town, Saint-Ambroise, is 12 km distant. The big place round here is Saguenay, 34 km distant. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no depth figure for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac Bonpas light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -18°C at the bottom of winter. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Lac Bonpas the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lac a Georges at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Lac Bonpas locally before you travel.
