Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a gentle ripple from the SW and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Billy should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Within Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, you have Lac Billy. It stands 300 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to roughly 3.12 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The outline measures near 8.8 km, so local knowledge counts. Waswanipi lies 22 km from the water. Beyond it, Chapais at 87 km and Lebel-sur-Quévillon at 91 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Nord-du-Québec records list Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Lac Billy is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Lac Billy to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac Bachelor is 5.7 km distant. Ask locally about Lac Billy if anything is unclear.
