A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Bazou should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Bazou is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. Country round the bank runs to spruce and muskeg. It measures about 15 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.7 km, small enough to learn in a day. The town to know is Weymontachie, 43 km out. Then Leblanc, 69 km, and Saint-Félicien, 88 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Bazou gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -18°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Lac Bazou that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Dernier is 1.4 km distant. Nothing on Lac Bazou should be assumed from this page alone.
