Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with calm air over the water with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Bat should be near sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, is where Lac Bat sits. Elevation runs to 381 metres. Roughly 32 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With about 2.5 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. For supplies, Notre-Dame-du-Lac is 104 km out. Gatineau sits 247 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The near bank of Lac Bat is often the one people ignore.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -15°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Bat rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac de la Lampee, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Lac Bat carry more weight than any list.
