Flat light and a covered sky today, with just enough SSE wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. On Lac Bans, work sheltered bays and points first. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Out in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, sits Lac Bans. Beyond the shoreline you have taiga. The water covers some 12 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The whole outline is near 1.6 km, and most of it is walkable. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nord-du-Québec list. For a base, Chibougamau sits 55 km out. Then Mistissini, 77 km, and Chapais, 86 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Lac Bans a short move beats a long cast.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Anyone fishing Lac Bans regularly works to that calendar.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Boismorel at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. Where Lac Bans is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
