Dull, settled light over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with the barometer flat. Activity on Lac April should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

The Laurentides entry here is Lac April, in Quebec. Elevation runs to 371 metres. Surface area is around 47 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The full circuit measures close to 3.3 km on foot. Few waters listed in Laurentides are bigger. Nearest place of any size is Ferme-Neuve, 51 km away. For a city, Gatineau is 178 km off. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The shape of Lac April rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -16°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. On Lac April the same rules apply, with local timing.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Lac Jones, 1.3 km away. For Lac April in particular, ask before you travel.
