A grey, even sky over the water, with barely a breath of wind and pressure sitting still. On Lac Anne, work reed fringes and open pockets first. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lac Anne in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. The bank gives way to mixed forest. With some 12 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 1.6 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Head to Mattawa, 27 km away, for anything you forgot. Notre-Dame-du-Lac is 47 km away, with Témiscaming at 49 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. Work Lac Anne in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about -14°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac Anne runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Brebeuf sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm before you fish Lac Anne.
