A closed sky with even light today, with mild air moving in from the NW with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Alphonse around the seam between weed and open water. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Mauricie end of Quebec holds Lac Alphonse. The ground around here is lake country bush. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. 47 km away sits La Tuque, the nearest town. It is 165 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Also within reach: Lac Canard sits 1.5 km out, Lac Henri at 1.6 km, Lac Albert sits 1.7 km out, Lac Paul at 2.5 km and Lac Genereux sits 2.8 km out. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Read Lac Alphonse for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Lac Alphonse to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Canard sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Alphonse may have changed since it was mapped.
