A mixed sky through the night, with a whisper of wind from the W and no real change in pressure. On Lac Alphonse, work sheltered bays and points first. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Alphonse sits. The land about it is spruce and muskeg. Surface area runs to roughly 3.49 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The edge covers about 23 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It ranks high for size among our Mauricie listings. The nearest place of any size is Leblanc, 100 km away. After that come Lebel-sur-Quévillon at 113 km and Waswanipi at 120 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Take Lac Alphonse a stretch at a time.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Alphonse runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Kice Amikotcitc at 3.3 km is the nearest alternative. Where Lac Alphonse is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
