A closed sky with even light today, with a useful SW wind pushing food about with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Allan will be around the calm side of the wind. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

In Quebec, Lac Allan falls inside Capitale-Nationale. The bank gives way to northern bush. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Some 66 km away sits Baie-Saint-Paul, the nearest settlement. Beaupré is 70 km and Château-Richer 75 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Allan repays a walk before the first cast.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate averages put the opening at about mid May and the closing near early November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Time your trip to Lac Allan by conditions rather than dates.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac F.-X.-Lemieux is 24 km off. Rules at Lac Allan are worth checking on the day.
