A rainy spell sitting over the area, with a light SE breeze and steady pressure. Activity on Lac Alfred should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. Set the alarm around the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Lac Alfred in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec. Around the bank it is lake country bush. Surface area runs to about 4 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Start from Laurentides, 20 km down the road. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 72 km distant. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Capitale-Nationale cover lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Alfred the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Lac Alfred the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac de la Ligne is 0.6 km off. Check the position at Lac Alfred before loading the car.
