Overcast skies today, with light air out of the S and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Lac Alex will be around reed fringes and open pockets. The strongest window is the morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Alex is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. The ground around here is mixed forest. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. For supplies, Saint-Michel-des-Saints is 55 km out. Trois-Rivières sits 94 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. In the same area: Lac Desy 0.8 km away, Lac Page 1.5 km, Lac Lee 1.7 km away, Lac Bournival 2.4 km and Lac Hector 2.6 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Lac Alex the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Lac Alex more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Desy, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Lac Alex is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
