Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac a Vie should be near any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Set in Côte-Nord, Lac a Vie is a Quebec water. Salt water lies 38 km off. For supplies, Chute-aux-Outardes is 45 km out. For a city, Saguenay is 185 km off. Close by you have: Lac du Diable out at 1.6 km, Lac T.N.R. A shade over 3.2 km, Lac d'en Bas out at 4.1 km, Lac Chasse a shade over 5.1 km and Lac Denis out at 6.4 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. At Lac a Vie light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Lac a Vie the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac du Diable, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac a Vie for certain.
