A closed sky with even light today, with a faint SSW drift with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac a la Loutre should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Look for Lac a la Loutre in Côte-Nord, Quebec. Land around it is spruce and muskeg. The water covers around 3.73 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. There is roughly 27 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. Few waters listed in Côte-Nord are bigger. Start from Baie-Comeau, 39 km down the road. After that come Hauterive at 40 km and Chute-aux-Outardes at 49 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac a la Loutre the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Anyone fishing Lac a la Loutre regularly works to that calendar.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Sluice sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Treat Lac a la Loutre as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
