Passing showers with dry spells between, with a consistent blow out of the NNW and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Grand lac Long will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Look for Grand lac Long in Côte-Nord, Quebec. Salt water lies 1.1 km off. With some 14 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 1.8 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. For supplies, Saint-Augustin is 78 km out. For a city, St. John's is 560 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Côte-Nord include logperch. The county list is broader than any single water. The shape of Grand lac Long rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect August to average close to 14°C, with January the cold end at about -13°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Grand lac Long.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lac Muskrat at 1.7 km is the nearest alternative. Where Grand lac Long is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
