Overcast skies today, with a firm SE blow with the glass holding level. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at O'Keefes Lake. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for O'Keefes Lake in the Queens County part of Prince Edward Island. The surroundings are lake country bush. It runs to roughly 48 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The full circuit measures close to 2.8 km on foot. It ranks high for size among our Queens County listings. For a base, Montague sits 16 km out. After that come Belfast at 19 km and Three Rivers at 20 km. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name striped bass, American eel, rainbow smelt, alewife and brook trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of O'Keefes Lake decides where the fish sit.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and February reads -8°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid December: that is the shape of an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on O'Keefes Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows a ramp about 300 m from the shore. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lake Verde is 5.5 km off. Nothing on O'Keefes Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
