An even grey lid over the water, with next to no ripple with a settled glass. Fish at Wigwam Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Wigwam Lake in the Timiskaming District part of Ontario. The water sits 326 metres up. This is sizeable water at about 1.17 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. There is roughly 7.0 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. On our Timiskaming District list it sits near the top for size. Nearest town is Englehart, 61 km off. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 136 km away. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Wigwam Lake should walk it once before setting up.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -17°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Wigwam Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Crawford Lake is 1.3 km distant. Confirm access to Wigwam Lake locally before you travel.
