A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft SSE wind and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Whitelily Lake along inflow corners and shaded margins. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Ontario holds Whitelily Lake, in Thunder Bay District. This is taiga country. At about 43 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 4.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The town to know is Shuniah Township, 16 km out. Beyond it, Amethyst Harbour at 21 km and Lappe at 22 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Thunder Bay District: cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Whitelily Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Whitelily Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a jetty 880 m off, worth knowing on a busy day. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Timmus Lake, 0.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Whitelily Lake.
