Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW with the barometer flat. The water to cover at White Lake is the first drop-off and weed lines. The day runs flat but workable from start to finish. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Kenora District, White Lake is an Ontario water. Height above sea level is 354 metres. About 2.39 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. With 17 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. The nearest town is Kenora, 28 km away. Then Vermilion Bay, 54 km, and Dryden, 98 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On White Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Climate normals give 19°C for July and -17°C for January. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. White Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Bill Lake, 2.2 km out. Where White Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
