Overcast skies today, with a stiffish breeze from the W and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Weeduck Lake should come off sheltered bays and points. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The District Municipality of Muskoka end of Ontario holds Weeduck Lake. What surrounds it is lake country bush. At about 14 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Huntsville lies 3.9 km from the water. Beyond it, Bracebridge at 32 km and Gravenhurst at 45 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across District Municipality of Muskoka, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Weeduck Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 19°C and January near -11°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Break-up sits around mid April on average, with the water closing again about early December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Weeduck Lake that shapes the whole year.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Otter Lake, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Weeduck Lake.
