A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough NW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. The fish at Wawong Lake are likely to sit near the weed line and any gaps in it. A middling, even day, steady rather than spectacular. Work fewer spots, but work them properly.

Thunder Bay District in Ontario is where Wawong Lake sits. The land about it is taiga. Roughly 8.27 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. With about 57 km of shoreline, local advice saves a lot of walking. Size puts it in the front rank of our Thunder Bay District list. Geraldton lies 58 km from the water. After that come Greenstone at 59 km and Longlac at 61 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Thunder Bay District records list cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Wawong Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -20°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Wawong Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Clover Lake at 5.5 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Wawong Lake carry more weight than any list.
