A still, cloudless night on the water, with light air out of the S with the barometer flat. On Waugush Lake, work the shallows early and the drop later first. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Algoma entry here is Waugush Lake, in Ontario. It lies 210 metres above sea level. With some 47 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 5.2 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Nearest town is Elliot Lake, 19 km off. Beyond it, Blind River at 24 km and Little Current at 62 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Algoma names walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Waugush Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -10°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Waugush Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A made slipway is 840 m from here, which settles the boat question. The nearest mapped parking is 800 m away, so the last stretch is on foot. Public data records a pier about 990 m out. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Carson Lake is 4.3 km off. For Waugush Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
