Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a faint SSW drift and the barometer holding steady. On Water Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

You will find Water Lake in Sudbury, Ontario. It lies 479 metres above sea level. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Bank access stretches around 3.8 km in total. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Elliot Lake sits 72 km from the bank. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 121 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Fish Water Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Water Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Between Lake sits 1.7 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Water Lake in what we hold.
