Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a kind WNW breeze on the water with the glass holding level. The fish at Waites Lake are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it.

Waites Lake belongs to Renfrew County, Ontario. The ground round it is lake country bush. At about 21 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 2.4 km on foot. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. The closest town, Cobden, is 14 km away. The big place round here is Gatineau, 84 km distant. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Renfrew County cover smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Work Waites Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 20°C, while January sits near -12°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Waites Lake follows the weather closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Recorded parking is 1.3 km off, far enough to travel light. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Shea Lake at 2.8 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Waites Lake for certain.
