Solid cloud cover today, with next to no ripple and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Vipond Lake around reed fringes and open pockets. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

In Ontario, Vipond Lake falls inside Timiskaming District. It sits at 368 metres above sea level. At roughly 6 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is a small entry by Timiskaming District standards. Nearest town is Kirkland Lake, 76 km off. Englehart lies 78 km off, Timmins another 80 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Timiskaming District records list brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Vipond Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -17°C at the bottom of winter. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Vipond Lake to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Rankin Lake, 5.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Vipond Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
