Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Upper Boom Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
The Nipissing District end of Ontario holds Upper Boom Lake. Land around it is lake country bush. Roughly 11 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 1.9 km, and most of it is walkable. The closest town, Mattawa, is 18 km away. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 188 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco and yellow perch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Read Upper Boom Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan any trip to Upper Boom Lake around it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, West Aumond Lake at 2.3 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Upper Boom Lake in what we hold.
